How to Check MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 Results 2027

Takeaway: Results come from the RCOG to you directly — make sure your login and registered email work MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 results day:

Results are made available through your RCOG online account and notified to your registered email . The RCOG states that no results information is given by phone (RCOG Part 1 FAQs).

Before MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 results day:

  1. Confirm you can log in to your RCOG account; reset your password in advance if needed.
  2. Check that the email on your account is current, and add the RCOG to your safe-senders list.
  3. On the day, check your spam folder if nothing arrives. If you still cannot access your result, contact the RCOG exams team and quote your College account number.

For candidates in UK specialty training, results are also shared with LETBs/deaneries and the GMC. Once you pass, the award and its date become public information (RCOG Part 1 FAQs).

How the MRCOG pass mark is set

Takeaway: There is no fixed MRCOG pass mark; it is set for each exam, so comparing your score with a friend’s from another sitting tells you little.

  • Part 2: each exam has one combined pass mark, set by standard-setting based on the difficulty of the questions. The two papers are each worth 50% of the final score, and within each paper SBAs carry 40% of the marks and EMQs 60%. There is no separate pass mark for SBAs and EMQs (RCOG Part 2 exam format). (RCOG Part 2 exam format).
  • Part 1:the exam has two papers, each with 100 single best answer (SBA) questions taken over 2.5 hours, and both papers count equally towards the final score. The RCOG does not publish a fixed pass mark for Part 1, and it can vary between sittings (RCOG Part 1 exam format).

We do not publish pass marks or pass rates for specific sittings here unless the RCOG has published them.

MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 results: your 2027 timeline

Your MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 results decide which sitting you can aim for next. If everything goes to plan, you can sit all three parts within 2027:

StepKey date
Sit MRCOG Part 1Tue 19 January 2027
Part 1 resultWed 17 February 2027
Submit MRCOG Part 2 EOI for Julyby Tue 30 March 2027
Book Part 220 April – 15 June 2027
Sit MRCOG Part 2Wed 14 July 2027
MRCOG Part 3 AoT deadline for NovemberThu 22 July 2027
MRCOG Part 2 resultWed 11 August 2027
Book Part 3 (first window)26 – 30 August 2027
Sit Part 310–11 and 15–16 November 2027

The key point is the Part 3 AoT deadline: it falls before your Part 2 result. Because AoT can be approved any time after you pass Part 1, apply for it straight after your MRCOG Part 1 results so it is ready for November. If you miss it, the next Part 3 sitting is May 2028.

Most candidates who work full-time take longer than this, so treat it as the fastest possible route rather than a target.

What to do after passing MRCOG Part 1

Keep your pass letter, start Part 2 while the science is fresh, and consider applying for Assessment of Training now.

  1. Save your Part 1 pass letter. It is the only certification you get for Part 1; certificates are issued only after Part 3 (RCOG Part 1 FAQs).
  2. Note the time limit. There is no deadline for passing Part 2, but you must attempt it within 10 years of passing Part 1 (7 years, pro rata, if you are on the UK Specialist Register route), or retake Part 1.
  3. Pick your Part 2 sitting. A January 2027 pass leaves time to submit the July 2027 Part 2 EOI by Tue 30 March 2027 and book from 20 April.
  4. Apply for Assessment of Training (AoT) early. AoT can be applied for any time after passing Part 1 and must be approved before you can apply for Part 3. Allow up to 4 weeks’ processing (RCOG Part 3 how to apply). Sorting it now avoids a delay after Part 2.
  5. Change how you study. Part 2 tests applied clinical reasoning through SBAs and EMQs, drawing heavily on RCOG Green-top Guidelines and NICE guidance. Practise the two question types separately at first, then start timed mocks early rather than in the last fortnight. Our MRCOG Part 2 preparation strategy sets out a plan.

What to do after passing MRCOG Part 2

Takeaway: Part 3 needs both a Part 2 pass and an approved AoT, and the AoT deadline can fall before your Part 2 result.

  • Check your AoT status first. The May 2027 Part 3 AoT deadline is Thu 21 January 2027 and the November 2027 deadline is Thu 22 July 2027 — both before the matching Part 2 results days (RCOG Part 3 key dates). Because AoT can be approved any time after Part 1, applying early means it is ready when your Part 2 result arrives.
  • Know the Part 3 rules. You must attempt Part 3 at least once within 7 years of passing Part 2, and you have 4 attempts; after 4 unsuccessful attempts you must retake Part 2 (RCOG Part 3 FAQs).
  • Start Part 3 practice now. Part 3 is a 14-task clinical circuit assessing communication, patient safety and applied clinical knowledge, so begin structured role-play and case discussion with feedback early.

What to do if you fail MRCOG Part 1 or Part 2

Takeaway: A fail is common and fixable — check your attempt count, then build a resit plan around the next EOI deadline.

  1. Check your attempts. For Part 1, candidates intending to join the UK Specialist Register are limited to 6 attempts; other candidates have no limit (RCOG Part 1 FAQs). Part 2 follows the same rule: a maximum of 6 attempts if you intend to join the UK Specialist Register, and no limit otherwise (RCOG Part 2 FAQs).
  2. Read your results letter carefully for any feedback it includes
  3. Diagnose before you restart. Was it knowledge gaps, timing, or exam technique? Our guide to why candidates fail MRCOG Part 1 helps you pinpoint the cause.
  4. Plan the resit. Resit candidates do not reapply for eligibility but must submit a new EOI. After the MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 results on 17 February 2027, the July 2027 EOI closes on Tue 30 March 2027 — about six weeks to decide.
  5. If something went wrong on the day (for example a technical problem at the test centre), read the RCOG appeals policy and extenuating circumstances policy promptly; these policies have deadlines, so act quickly.
