MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 Exam Dates, Booking and EOI Guide

Views 178

The next MRCOG Part 1 exam is on Tuesday 19 January 2027 and the next Part 2 exam is on Wednesday 20 January 2027; booking for both opens on Tuesday 27 October 2026 and closes on Tuesday 15 December 2026. The sitting after that is MRCOG Part 1 on Tuesday 13 July 2027 and MRCOG Part 2 on Wednesday 14 July 2027. To sit either exam you must have an RCOG account, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for that sitting by the deadline, and then book a seat at a Pearson VUE centre while the booking window is open.

This guide gives the key dates for the current and next sittings, fees by country band, the booking process step by step, how to submit your EOI, attempt limits and the most common mistakes. We update this page every sitting.

The eligibility deadline is a submission deadline, not an approval date, so submit early. Part 2 has no separate eligibility stage, but you must have passed Part 1 before you can sit it. If you are sitting Part 1 in January, the January results (17 February 2027) arrive in good time for the July Part 2 EOI.

MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 fees by country band

MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 cost the same, and the fee depends on the country of the test centre you sit in, not where you live.

  • India (Band B): since January 2025, Goods and Services Tax is added to MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 fees for exams sat in India, collected by the RCOG. The RCOG does not publish the amount on its key-dates page, so check the total at checkout. Part 3 fees are not affected.
  • GCC (Band A): a doctor living in India but sitting in Dubai pays the Band A fee, because banding follows the centre.

Fees are set in pounds sterling and paid online when you book; we don’t quote a fixed rupee or dirham figure because exchange rates move.

How to book MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2: step by step

Booking is a sequence — account, eligibility (first-time Part 1 only), EOI every sitting, then a first-come, first-served seat at Pearson VUE.

  1. Create your RCOG account. One account holds your applications and bookings for all three parts. Use exactly the same name as on your passport and degree certificate. If you have sat any RCOG exam before, use your existing account and College number.
  2. Submit the eligibility application (first-time Part 1 candidates only). You will need your RCOG account number, your medical registration number and a government-issued ID (such as a passport) in the same name as your degree certificate. Upload proof of your primary medical degree: the original or an attested copy of your PMD certificate, or a registration certificate that names your PMD and university. Copies must be certified by a notary public, commissioner of oaths, justice of the peace, lawyer, or an embassy or consulate officer (not a relative), and non-English documents need an authorised translation. (RCOG how to apply). Resit candidates do not reapply.
  3. Submit an EOI for each sitting. Every candidate, first-timer or resitter, Part 1 or Part 2, must submit a new EOI before the deadline (see the next section).
  4. Book in the booking window. When the window opens you book a seat at a Pearson VUE test centre and pay online. Seats are allocated first come, first served, so popular centres fill early (RCOG Part 1 FAQs).
  5. Check your confirmation email.Pearson VUE sends an automated email confirming the booking and the ID you need on the day. Check the centre, date and your name, and keep it safe. The RCOG cannot change or transfer your centre after the closing date..

How to submit your MRCOG Expression of Interest

The EOI is a short step that is easy to forget, and without it you cannot book for that sitting.

The EOI tells the RCOG you intend to sit a specific exam. It does not carry over: a new EOI is needed for every sitting, including resits (RCOG how to apply).

  1. Log in to your RCOG account and open the Expression of Interest link for your exam well before the deadline.
  2. Choose the correct exam (MRCOG Part 1 or Part 2) and the correct sitting (January or July).
  3. Use the same College account number and name as on your eligibility application.
  4. Complete every field. Missing or mismatched details can stop you booking later.
  5. Save any acknowledgement, and watch your registered email (including spam) for booking instructions.

First-time Part 1 candidates: the eligibility application and the EOI are two separate submissions with two separate deadlines. Do both.

Attempt limits and time rules

Attempt caps apply only if you want UK Specialist Register entry, and passing Part 1 starts the clock for your first Part 2 attempt.

  • Part 1: candidates intending to join the UK Specialist Register may have no more than 6 attempts; there is no limit for other candidates (RCOG Part 1 FAQs).
  • Part 2: the same rule applies. A maximum of 6 attempts if you intend to join the UK Specialist Register; no limit otherwise (RCOG Part 2 FAQs).
  • Time limit: there is no deadline for passing Part 2, but you must attempt it within 10 years of passing Part 1, or within 7 years (pro rata) if you are on the UK Specialist Register route. If you don’t, you must retake Part 1.
  • Keep your Part 1 pass letter. It is the only certificate you receive until you pass Part 3.

Common MRCOG booking mistakes

Most lost sittings come from missed deadlines and mismatched details, not from a lack of seats.

  1. Treating the eligibility deadline as an approval date. The RCOG only reviews applications after the deadline closes and needs at least four weeks, so submit on time with every document correct the first time.
  2. Unattested or untranslated degree copies. A plain photocopy, or one attested by a relative, will not do.
  3. Name mismatches between your passport, degree certificate and RCOG account. If your name has changed, have legal proof ready.
  4. Forgetting the EOI for a resit. Resitters skip eligibility but still need a new EOI.
  5. Booking on a phone on a busy connection. Use a laptop with stable internet, and open the booking link once — repeated clicks across several tabs can disrupt the session.
  6. Card problems. Use a card enabled for international payments with enough limit for the fee plus any tax, and check the billing name and address.
  7. Forgotten password. Reset your RCOG login before booking day, and make sure you can access your registered email on the device you will use.
  8. Waiting for the “right” centre. Have a second-choice centre ready; you cannot switch after the closing date.

What happens after you book

Once booked, shift your energy from admin to preparation.

Plan your revision backwards from exam day. Our MRCOG Part 1 preparation strategy sets out a study plan, and the MRCOG Part 2 exam format guide explains the SBA and EMQ papers. In the final weeks, use our last-minute revision guide. Results come out about four weeks after the exam — see how to check your MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 results. New to the exam? Frequently asked questions

When is the next MRCOG Part 1 exam?

Here are the MRCOG Part 1 exam dates and Part 2 dates for 2027. The next MRCOG Part 1 exam is on Tuesday 19 January 2027, with booking open from 27 October to 15 December 2026. The one after that is on Tuesday 13 July 2027. The RCOG runs Part 1 twice a year, in January and July.

Do I need to submit an EOI every time?

Yes. A new Expression of Interest is required for every sitting, whether it is your first attempt or a resit. Without it you will not be able to book for that sitting.

Do resit candidates need a new eligibility application?

No. Once your Part 1 eligibility has been approved, you do not reapply for resits. You still need to submit an EOI and book within the window.

How much is the MRCOG Part 1 fee in India?

India is in Band B, so the 2027 fee for Part 1 (and Part 2) is £613, plus GST for exams sat in India. The RCOG collects the GST; check the amount at checkout.

Can I change my exam centre after booking?

The RCOG cannot change or transfer test centres after the booking closing date. Choose carefully and confirm the details in your Pearson VUE confirmation email.

Are MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 on the same day?

No. In each sitting Part 1 is on the Tuesday and Part 2 on the Wednesday — 19 and 20 January 2027, and 13 and 14 July 2027. Results for both are released on the same day.

What if I can’t get a seat at my preferred centre?

Seats are first come, first served, so book as soon as the window opens and keep a second-choice centre in mind. Fees follow the centre’s country band, so check the fee if you switch countries.
