  • Understanding human structure: Includes anatomy, embryology and genetics.
  • Understanding measurement and manipulation: Focuses on biophysics, epidemiology, statistics, data interpretation and pharmacology.

Preparation strategies for MRCOG Part 1

  • Plan your study: Set aside 4-6 months for thorough preparation. Make a clear timetable and break down your study topics into small parts. This way, you can cover everything in a systematic way without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Use reliable resources: Stick to trusted textbooks and resources. For example, Basic Sciences for Obstetrics and Gynaecology by Tim Chard and Richard Lilford, Clinical Gynecologic Endocrinology and Infertility by Mark A Fritz and Leon Speroff, and Medical Microbiology by Patrick R Murray, Ken S Rosenthal, and Michael A Pfaller are all great choices. Besides books, you can also use online courses and question banks to practice SBAs and improve your understanding.
  • Practice mock exams: Solve practice papers to get familiar with the exam format. This will help you build your confidence and improve your time management skills.
  • Join study groups: It can be helpful to study with others. Peer discussions allow you to clarify difficult topics and learn from each other.
  • Healthy habits: Make sure to take care of your health during your preparation. Eat nutritious food, get enough sleep and take regular breaks so that you stay focused and energised.
