Before starting any meaningful journey- an exam, a qualification, or even a new career direction- we need a clear understanding of what we are working towards. When you know what to expect clearly, then planning becomes easier and every step you take feels more purposeful.
If you are a doctor aiming to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology, you may have heard about the globally respected MRCOG qualification. But do you know what exactly does the journey involve? Who can apply? How is the examination structured? And more importantly, what opportunities could it bring?
These are questions worth exploring before you begin your MRCOG journey.
Getting to Know the MRCOG Pathway
The MRCOG examination has three parts, and each one tests a different area of professional development.
The Part 1 of MRCOG covers the basic and applied sciences relevant to OBG. Part 2 focuses on applying clinical knowledge, while Part 3 evaluates clinical skills, communication and professional competence.
Candidates progressing towards Part 3 must also complete the Assessment of Training, commonly called AoT. It confirms that their training meets the required standard for Part 3 eligibility.
Find the Information in One Place
At StudyMRCOG, we know how confusing the process can feel when important details are scattered across different sources. Candidates often spend hours searching for information, only to find that one answer leads to several more questions. Over the past decade, we at StudyMRCOG have supported doctors at different stages of their MRCOG journey. Along the way, we have listened to their questions and seen how quickly the process can become overwhelming.
To make this easier, we have created an informative YouTube series, named ‘All About MRCOG’, that brings all the essential information together in a simple, accessible format.
The series covers:
- Eligibility for MRCOG
- Exam format and structure
- Assessment of Training
- The career pathway after MRCOG
- Advantages of the qualification
- Salary and earning potential
- Global career possibilities

The series is presented by an AI avatar of Dr. Sowmya N.S, COO and Co founder of StudyMEDIC, who explains each topic in a simple and engaging way.
What Could MRCOG Mean for Your Career?
MRCOG is more than completing a three-part examination. It can strengthen your knowledge, clinical judgement and professional credibility within the OBG field.
It may also support career progression and international opportunities. However, roles, salaries and licensing requirements vary between countries and healthcare systems. Learning about these possibilities early can help you build a career plan that is both ambitious and realistic.
